NetJets(R) Inc., a Berkshire Hathaway(R) company and the worldwide leader in private aviation, announced the opening of a new exclusive-use facility at Atlanta's DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK). The Future Of Insurance Rates: Good News or Bad News? How to make the most of what’s to come!

As the saying goes, there is good news and there is bad news. Which would you like to hear first?

First, let’s look at the good news for the FBO Operator. We are in the continued midst of a soft aviation insurance market that began in 2006. Since then, aviation insurance rates have declined to their lowest point in history.  

Now, the potentially bad news, beginning in the winter of 2010, many in the aviation insurance industry are predicting a return to a Hard Market.  

What is a Hard Market? It is generally characterized by fewer underwriters bidding on a particular risk - resulting in fewer options, increased rates and premiums, decreased limits of liability and less ancillary coverage offered. In addition, there are more stringent underwriting requirements on training with less flexibility for the operational managers.

Marshall Aerospace has appointed Howard Povey, head of aircraft sales and brokerage at Marshall Business Aviation. Based at its Cambridge Airport, UK headquarters, the new business will focus initially on acquiring and selling pre-owned business jets and turboprops. Hawthorne Global Aviation Services FBO Expands in New Orleans (NEW), Plans for the Future

Hawthorne Global Aviation Services has acquired its second FBO and first in the Gulf Coast area. The South Carolina-based company, which has an 80-year heritage in aviation, purchased a controlling interest in the AeroPremier facility at New Orleans Lakefront Airport and has rebranded it as a Hawthorne property. The location, which completed extensive renovations earlier this year, has more than 50,000 sq. ft. of hangar space and can accommodate aircraft up to the size of a Global Express. Earlier this year, Hawthorne acquired the ExcelAire FBO at MacArthur Airport on Long Island, N.Y.
