TAC Air Consolidates GMU FBO, Prepares for Subsidized Competition at CHA

TEXARKANA, TX November 18, 2010 – TAC Air recently sold its Greenville, South Carolina (GMU) FBO operation to Greenville Jet Center. A smooth transition of operations occurred on October 29th. Terms of the sale were not released. According to TAC Air VP & COO Christian Sasfai, the move reflects a growing trend in general aviation FBO services, stating “consolidation has become a necessary component of today’s aviation services industry in order to provide high quality, low cost products and services to aircraft owners and operators.” Meanwhile, TAC Air is actively pursuing several acquisition opportunities. According to Sasfai, “We’re simply reallocating our resources to where the greatest opportunities are. We expect to make our next acquisition announcement in early 2011, with more to follow.”

Plan To Build FBO May Cost Chattanooga Taxpayers

Officials said a plan by the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport to build its own Fixed Base Operation (FBO) and hangar facilities may wind up as a loser for taxpayers. However, airport officials defended the plan and said TAC Air, which has long had an operation at the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, charges much more for fuel than a number of other regional airports. Construction is getting underway on the new airport facility. Proposals were received on Friday for operating it.

Midstate Aviation - Preparing For Liftoff at the Airport

The warm Midstate Aviation office at Bowers Field was filled with the smell of coffee as flight students and instructors reviewed the flight schedule and prepared for their 9 o’clock takeoff Wednesday morning.
Midstate, which has operated in Ellensburg since 1961, has a contract with Central Washington University to provide flight training at the airport about two miles north of town. As a fixed base operator, Midstate can be compared to a service station for the airport — its maintenance shop offers aircraft repairs and the company sells fuel.

Work Begins On New General Aviation Terminal at Chattanooga

As builders start work on a $3.6 million general aviation terminal at Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, bids by companies seeking to run the facility are due Friday. Work at the terminal, part of the biggest building project at the airport in nearly two decades, is to be in "full swing" this week, said Jeff Morgan, president of Morgan Construction Co. Morgan is raising the 9,000-square-foot terminal along with Paris Construction and said it should be finished by late summer 2011.
