Three Things AC-U-KWIK Learned at IOC2015

McCollum Field airport manager Karl Von Hagel and AC-U-KWIK editor-in-chief Paul Wyatt discuss changes coming to the Cobb County, Ga., airport at the 2015 NBAA International Operators Conference in San Antonio.Customs Coming to Cobb County

At the NBAA International Operators Conference last week, McCollum Field airport manager Karl Von Hagel noted the growth of traffic at the airport, located in Cobb County, Ga., 20 minutes northwest of downtown Atlanta, during his tenure. Von Hagel said the economic impact of the airport has increased from $12 million when he started at the airport in 1993 to $112 million in 2010. To address that trend, he was pleased to announce the opening of a new 78-foot tower in March. He also said Cobb County will get a 2900 sq. ft. customs facility in June.

Docs and Procedures

Most of the conference sessions centered around planning and information gathering for flights. It was noted that there is no single location for the vast array of resources that are required for international trip planning. Some of those sources are available through AC-U-KWIK, but it is clear we could do a better job of mapping out a pre-flight workflow. There are many tools out there, but every flight department seems to be crafting their own approach on piecing it all together.

Books Are Popular at IOC

The AC-U-KWIK North American and International directories were the most popular materials available at the event. Several pilots claimed that they always like to have them within reach citing the need to quickly reference airport and FBO info. And yes, a few mentioned that the books required “no battery and no charging.”
