Speakers Set For Isle Of Man Aviation Conference

Organizers are expecting to exceed the number of delegates who registered for this increasingly prestigious and high profile event in 2012. The organizing committee includes the Isle of Man’s Director of Civil Aviation, Hartley Elder, Director of ICM Aviation, Mark Byrne and Director of Operations at Appleby Aviation, Brian Johnson. The chosen theme for the conference is The Global Connection, reflecting the global reach of M-registered aircraft beyond Europe into the Middle East, Asia and Australasia and the continuing emergence of the Island as a leading International Business Center.

The 2013 speaker list draws on business aviation expertise from around the globe and includes American aviation lawyer John Schmidt of Aero Law LLC, Ali Al Naqbi, founding chairman of the Middle East Business Aviation Association (MEBAA), Trevor Lambarth of Canadian executive jet manufacturer Bombardier and Thierry Betbeze of French manufacturer Dassault Aviation. They will be joined by Island-based aviation professionals Hartley Elder, Mark Byrne and Nigel Watson as well as Marc Bailey of the British Business and General Aviation Association (BBGA) from the UK. Nigel Watson of Luviair will facilitate a helicopter session during the conference, supported by a number of rotary wing professionals including a representative from Eurocopter. Presentations by members of the Isle of Man Government will include the Minister for Economic Development, John Shimmin.

The conference is not only a platform for topical discussion but also a showcase for the Isle of Man. Minister Shimmin is keen to highlight the importance of the aviation management sector to the Island. He said:

"I am delighted to see that the aviation conference is going from strength to strength and I am looking forward to addressing delegates at the conference in June. The conference theme of the ‘global connection’ is highly appropriate as many global corporations and high profile individuals have their aircraft assets registered and managed in the Isle of Man via our growing cluster of world class aviation companies and supported by the Isle of Man Aircraft Registry, now widely considered to be the best in the world."

The conference will be opened by the Lieutenant Governor for the Isle of Man, Mr. Adam Wood, and will end with a post-conference reception in the glorious Castle Rushen, one of the best preserved medieval castles in Europe. Delegates from overseas will also be offered the opportunity to join a coach tour round the famous Mountain Course, where the Island’s TT motorcycle races are held, with live commentary by TT winner Richard ‘Milky’ Quayle.

The event is sponsored by Appleby (Isle of Man) LLC, Luviair and Lloyds TSB International and supported by media partner Fly Corporate.
