Avfuel Focuses on Philanthropy at the End of a Successful 2015

The close of another year is time for companies to reflect and project business, but Avfuel Corporation also spends time focusing on how it can give back.

In 2015, Avfuel supported four charitable organizations—the University of Michigan Health System’s Center for Arrhythmia Research, Big Brothers Big Sisters Adopt-A-Family, C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Mittens for Detroit.

“I’m inspired,” said Craig R. Sincock, Avfuel president and CEO. “I’m inspired by the support of our customers and friends. I’m inspired by the hard work of our Avfuel family. I’m inspired by their generosity. 2015 has been another successful year of growth and productivity. It’s important we not only ask how we can better serve our customers, but also how we can better serve our community.”

In honor of its customers’ continued support, Avfuel made a donation to the University of Michigan Health System’s Center for Arrhythmia Research. With this donation, Avfuel supports fundamental research on cardiac arrhythmia by Dr. Jalife and his team, who developed a process whereby samples from young patients with inheritable heart diseases generate millions of cells that organize into heart-buds and contract just like an adult heart. This enables them to study how arrhythmias develop and test various treatment and prevention interventions, opening the door to new therapies, such as heart muscle patches. Ultimately, this is expected to improve the lives of millions of patients and prevent unexpected cardiac death.

Avfuel employees embraced the opportunity to give back as well by participating in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Adopt-A-Family program—one of the staff’s favorite holiday traditions. Each department is given a list of requested items and joyfully stocks presents underneath the Avfuel tree.

Employees also voted on an additional charity for which to raise funds. This year’s charity of choice was C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. Employee funded, the Avfuel family raised additional dollars toward this reputable organization of hope.

“Everyone really got into the charities this year,” said Ron Cagle, Avfuel vice president of credit. “We had a lot of enthusiastic feedback concerning which organization to donate to, and of course everyone really gets into the Adopt-A-Family program. It’s important to keep the chaos of this time of year in perspective—giving to others helps people do just that.”

Even as Avfuel employees celebrated the holidays together, they focused on opportunities to give back. This year’s company holiday party included an ice-breaker game of “find the matching glove.” At the conclusion of the event, each of the brand-new pairs of gloves were donated to Mittens for Detroit—a charity whose sole purpose is to collect, purchase and distribute new, unused mittens and gloves for both children and adults in need.
