Cessna's Large-Cabin, Long-Range Concept Gets Good Reviews
/A full-scale mockup of Cessna's large-cabin, long-range business concept is making the rounds at business jet centers around the world, including last month's Paris Air Show -- and feedback has been favorable, says Doug Oliver, Cessna's director of corporate communications.
Cessna's newest concept in the Citation line is a response to customer interest in continuous service that covers 3,000 to 3,200 nautical miles and at 85 percent Boeing winds. This particular concept could ultimately fly 4,000 nautical miles.
"We're finding that the international market is a bigger percentage of the overall market, which reflects expanding economies in Europe, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Russia," Oliver says.
As long-distance aircraft require comfortable interiors, the Cessna design includes seating for nine passengers, a large galley and toilet.
Payload, range and the overall business case for this concept is still being evaluated, Oliver adds.
Additionally, potential avionics and engine suppliers have not yet been identified. Next year Cessna will determine next steps for the product.
The preliminary design was initially launched in 2006 and has cleared wind tunnel testing. It's also on display in Cessna's showroom.
