Partnerships with Airport Landlords Pay
/As tenants on airport property, FBOs can partner with their landlords and reap benefits that enable them to edge out competitors, which might lease facilities from the same airport.
Securing access to fuel farm tanks and inclusion in airport marketing materials are among the benefits offered to FBOs by such a partnership, according to one expert.
As the general aviation market continues growing, it actually has much to learn from the commercial sector, which is already aligned to handle large-scale service issues. The ailing commercial industry is inspiring airports to manage their FBOs like profit centers — not necessary evils — FBO business consultant David Brinson said.
Alliances with other FBOs and trade groups are ways in which FBOs can protect and grow their business interests as an airport tenant. Associations "have more leverage with fuel suppliers and airport authorities,” said John Wraga, Executive Director of the Independent Fixed Base Operators Association.
