Avfuel-Branded Base Ops at Page Field Debuts Brand-New FBO with Design that Pays Homage to Military History

Pilots and passengers flying into Lee County Port Authority’s Page Field may not recognize the FBO formerly known as The Aviation Center. Renamed Base Ops at Page Field, a new terminal complex has been constructed to reflect Page Field’s rich military history as a World War II training base.

“The whole concept, from the architecture to the décor, is reminiscent of the airport’s role in the World War II era,” said Barry Bratton, Director of General Aviation. “The terminal was designed to reflect construction trends of that time- the arched roofline, the towers and all the glass. The public areas of the terminal feature poured terrazzo flooring, which has become a lost art.”

Chief Pilot Jim Cawthard and other employees worked closely with local historians to design displays of military artifacts to illustrate the airport’s military heritage. Murals were created from actual photos taken at the Page Field training base during World War II. A full-scale model of a P-51 fighter aircraft is suspended from the ceiling. No detail was overlooked - modern ground equipment has been painted olive drab to resemble Army service vehicles and front desk uniforms, designed by Fort Myers-based clothing retailer Chico’s, have a 1940s feel.

“Every element ties into our history,” Bratton said. “We’re excited to share that history with our visitors.”

Base Ops at Page Field officially unveiled the new name and look of the new terminal complex to the Fort Myers community in a dedication ceremony on August 25. The first day of operation in the new terminal is set for August 31. Guests can expect competitive fuel prices, complimentary ground services, and amenities such as wireless internet, snacks and beverages, a comfortable pilot’s lounge, recreational room, an executive conference room and more. The airport can accommodate large aircraft (such as a G-5) and a spacious 24,000 square-foot hangar provides ample aircraft storage space.

“We’re thrilled to be on board with Base Ops at Page Field as they debut their new look and features,” said Avfuel Director of Marketing Marci Ammerman. “Combined with the variety of services they continue to offer, the new look and displays will certainly make flying in or out of Page Field a memorable experience.”
