Lee Medlin Named 2014 S&D Outstanding Achievement & Leadership Award Winner

Created in 2008, the award recognizes individuals who have shared their outstanding business aviation industry expertise, provided extraordinary service, exhibited leadership and made significant contributions to the scheduling and dispatching function.

Medlin is the manager, flight operations for Chevron U.S.A. in Oakland, CA, where he was the first non-pilot to be promoted to this level of responsibility and oversight of flight operations. In addition to managing the policies, programs and strategies of Chevron’s flight operations, Medlin oversees aircraft acquisitions and sales, and coordinates, plans and monitors the operations budget.

Medlin has been continuously involved with the scheduling and dispatching function since 1980, and has held business aviation flight operations positions with a number of Fortune 100 corporations, including RJR Nabisco, Sony and Samsung. He has been with Chevron since 2002, where he has attended all available course offerings in the Chevron Structured Leadership Development Program. He has also completed the two aviation leadership programs at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.

“Lee always exhibits the highest ethical standards in all of his business dealings and holds himself personally accountable for his work and actions,” said E.K. “Betty” Uhrig, general manager of Chevron’s Aviation Services and Medlin’s manager. “He places the highest value on the health and safety of our employees, as well as the protection of our assets and the environment. He continually seeks to improve and is passionate about achieving results that always exceed expectations.”

Medlin served on the NBAA S&D Committee from 1993 to 1995, and was one of the founding members of the S&D Advisory Council, serving as its chair in 2006 and 2007. He was one of the original members of the education development (training) subcommittee. He has also presented numerous times at the annual S&D Conference on a variety of subjects.

“There are very few flight departments in the United States that promote a scheduler/dispatcher to Lee’s level of responsibility,” said Holly Whitaker, president of Exclusive Air, Inc. and one of Medlin’s nominators for the award. “He gives 110 percent on everything that he does.”

NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen will present Medlin with the award during NBAA’s 2014 Schedulers & Dispatchers Conference (SDC2014), to be held from Jan. 14 to 17 in New Orleans, LA.
