Odyssey Aviation Opens Fifth Location
/Odyssey Aviation began operations at the San Salvador International Airport (MYSM) also known as Cockburn Town Airport in May of this year. This is the fifth location that Odyssey owns and operates making it the largest general aviation service provider in The Bahamas.
“The difference between Odyssey and other handlers in The Bahamas is that when you land at an airport where there is an Odyssey Aviation FBO (fixed base operation) or Handling office, you can rest assured that the representative marshalling or meeting your aircraft has been trained and certified at our flagship location in Nassau,” says William Holowesko, General Manager of Odyssey at large. “Plus, all of our FBOs are private buildings with comfortable executive terminals.”
Odyssey Aviation San Salvador is the first ever FBO at the San Salvador Airport offering fuel and handling services to general aviation traffic and scheduled commercial airlines. Odyssey built a 1200 square foot executive terminal and a 25,000 gallon Jet A-1 fuel storage facility on the Northside of the parking apron.
San Salvador International Airport is an official port-of-entry with Customs and Immigration and an 8000 foot runway. It is one of the few airports in the Bahamas where aircraft are permitted to land under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) with the approval of the local airport authority thus allowing them to land after sunset.
The decision to open on San Salvador Island comes due to the anticipation of newly scheduled commercial flights from Europe and Canada. The airlines are promoting visitors to stay at the exclusive Club Med Columbus Isle Resort, the largest of the three resorts on the small island.
“There is high demand for dependable and legitimate general aviation services in the family islands of the Bahamas,” says Steven Kelly, President of Odyssey Aviation. “We are excited to have another opportunity to increase our presence and to create a positive experience for private travelers when entering The Bahamas.”
Last month San Salvador was among the southeastern islands devastated by Category 4 Hurricane Joaquin. The newly constructed Odyssey Aviation facility had no damage and because of this was able to play a vital role in the facilitation of relief efforts from Nassau.
