Satcom1 Brings In-Flight Videoconferencing Stateside

Already in demand among heads of states and other high-ranking VIPs, Satcom1's new inflight videoconferencing product is now entering the U.S. general aviation market. Several of the Satcom1 systems are being installed stateside over the next several months, says Karina Larsen, the company's director of sales and marketing.

Since the product was first installed on a VIP A-320 aircraft in Saudi Arabia last November, interest in conducting live video conferences between the air and ground has picked up.

The product functions with the Inmarsat Swift64 satellite communications system and two 42-inch LCD screens in the aircraft cabin. For customers concerned with security, encryption is an option.

To install the system, Satcom1 partners with its buyers' preferred maintenance/installation providers. Coast guard surveillance is another key likely buyer. The product can be adapted to work with the new Inmarsat SwiftBroadband that hits the market in October 2007.
